Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon butter (to grease the casserole dish)
- 2 medium potatoes (Yukon gold, skin on and sliced 1/4-inch thick)
- Salt (to taste)
- Pepper (to taste)
- 1 large clove garlic (finely chopped)
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme or
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme or oregano
- 1/2 cup Gruyere cheese (shredded, or Emmentaler cheese)
- 1/4 cup crema y leche
Steps to Make It
- Gather the ingredients.
- Heat oven to 375 F.
- Arrange 1/3 of the potatoes in the bottom of a small buttered casserole or soufflé dish (6- to 7-inches in diameter).
- Sprinkle with salt, pepper, 1/3 of the garlic, 1/3 of the thyme, and 1/3 of the cheese. Repeat for two more layers.
- Add cream and milk mix, slowly pouring in along the edge to avoid disturbing the layers.
- Cover snugly with aluminum foil, and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil, and continue cooking for 20 minutes until browned.
